This past Friday (October 7, 2005), I attended the Audio Engineering Society (AES) convention at the Javits Center in New York City. Among the products I saw there, a product from Analog Devices called SigmaStudio v.2.5 impressed me quite a bit. It's not new, but an upgrade to an existing product. This graphical programming tool works in conjunction with the SigmaDSP audio processors from the company. According to the company, SigmaStudio’s “drag and drop” style of development, combined with its building-block library, enables analog and digital audio-system-designers to implement complex signal flows easily and efficiently. From what I could tell, this is surely the case. It's so intuitive that I was ready to put on my designers hat (now where did I put that hat?) and jump right into the next great audio design. The DSP is targeted at space-constrained products like flat panel TVs, portable devices or iPod add-ons. Evaluation kits, including evaluation boards and the full SigmaStudio tools package, are available for all SigmaDSP products.
