Power Management Devices Supply Regulated Power
October 1999 Issue
Published Date: October 01, 1999
Two families of power management devices offer an alternative to reducing power consumption with excellent regulation. The TPS601xx charge-pump dc-dc converters use a high-current, push-pull output stage to reduce output noise and ripple while providing 300 mA of output with guaranteed regulation within ±4%. As a result, the devices are said to be the equal of inductor-based converters. The TPS767xx low-dropout regulators is said to be the first PMOS LDS series to provide 1A of output current. In addition, the LDOs are touted as providing significantly better load regulation and transient response than competitive devices. The devices are fabricated on a LinBiCMOS process with a PMOS transistor as the pass element, which results in a low supply current that stays low regardless of the output current. Power consumption is just 200 µA.
