Watchdog Timers Increase System Reliability
August 2000 Issue
Published Date: August 01, 2000
The MAX6369, 6371, 6372, 6373 and 6374 watchdog supervisory circuits are said to increase system reliability by detecting code execution error. When the system is not operating properly, these devices reset or interrupt the microprocessor to signal a fault condition. With a power consumption of only 5 µA, the devices appear to be ideal for use in battery operated products. Other features of these pin-selectable devices include 24 unique timing combinations, adjustable timeout period from 1 ms to 60 s, and a start-up delay feature that disables the watchdog during power-up or during a change in the timeout period. Available in eight-pin SOT23 packages, prices start at $0.98 each/2,500.
