40-Gb/s Photoreceiver Features High Input Sensitivity
November 2002 Issue
Published Date: November 01, 2002
Designed to optimize performance in 40 Gb/s optical networking applications, the XPRV2021 photoreceiver is fabricated from indium phosphide (InP) and employs a waveguide-integrated pin photodiode from u2t Photonics. The module has an optical-to-electrical bandwidth of 43 GHz that can be post filtered and is suitable for both non–return-to-zero (NRZ) and return-to-zero (RZ) applications. For NRZ applications, the photoreceiver module exhibits an input sensitivity of greater than –10 dBm while maintaining a BER of 10 to 9. Capable of accepting high input power levels to 0 dBm, the module operates from a standard 3.3V supply and dissipates less than 200 mW of power. The XPRV2021 photoreceiver is available in an SMT package and is available in small sample quantities. Quantity production is scheduled for the first quarter of 2003.
