A new 4-wire resistive touch-panel has been designed for high-temperature applications. The customized FID-554 touch-panel meets the temperature, humidity, vibration, and shock conditions encountered in the automotive environment, as well as other environments such as factory floors, warehouses, and remotely-located control stations. The unit consists of film-on-glass touch panels designed for use with transmissive and transflective LCDs. Designed in various sizes up to 12.1" diagonal, the panel addresses touch-interface applications, such as instrumentation, control systems, GPS navigation systems, electronics entertainment and telematics. The FID-554 has a continuous operating temperature range of –30°C to +85°C at up to 95% humidity. Measuring 1.4 mm thick, the unit has a 3H minimum surface hardness rating and is said to have an operating life of more than one million operations. Options include polarization filters, anti-reflection coatings, and anti-glare treatments for high-contrast, sunlight readability, and up to 92% transmissivity. Pricing for a 16:9 aspect ratio, 6.5" panel with circularly polarized filters and anti-reflective treatment is less than $100 each in OEM quantities.
