CPU Card Operates At High Temperatures
April 2003 Issue
Published Date: April 01, 2003
Tapping the resources of a low-power, 5x86 class processor, the 5070 CPU card operates at temperatures ranging from -40° to +85°C with little or no ventilation. The card also features what is said to be a unique BIOS that boots up in less than 6s. The fast-boot BIOS and setup data are stored in serial EEPROM to avoid boot failures due to battery depletion. Test and safety features include built-in diagnostics that run in the field without the need for test equipment and over- and reverse-voltage protection. Expansion is possible via on-board PC/104 and/or ISA connectors with peripheral I/O relegated to one USB port, two RS-232/422/485 ports, and a 10/100 Base-T Ethernet interface. Other features include 16 to 64 MB of SDRAM, a socket supporting up to 2 GB of bootable CompactFlash, 0.5s to 64s programmable watchdog timer, and support for SVGA CRTs and flat-panel displays. Requiring no drivers, the card comes with embedded DOS 7.2 and is compatible with Windows CE/NT, QNX and Linux. With 32 MB of SDRAM, pricing starts at $625 in OEM quantities.
