Fiber Optic Backlights Crank Up The Brightness

May 04, 2004
Depending on panel design and configuration, the UniGlo Optima fiber optic backlight panels can emit a brightness of 30+ Ft-L or greater with reliable uniformity. Size is also a draw for these panels, measuring as low as 0.013" thick and not requiring an inverter. They generate no heat or EMI and exploit the latest high-brightness 3 mm or 5 mm LED light sources. Other features include a lifetime of 100,000 hours or more, an operating temperature of -40°C to +85°C, and a typical power consumption of 20 to 30 mA while operating from a 3.6V supply. Additionally, one panel can illuminate an area up to 20 square inches using a single LED. Pricing starts at $0.25 per square inch in production quantities.
