Aerospace Circuit Breaker Rates To 50 Amps
November 2004 Issue
Published Date: November 17, 2004
A new circuit breaker has been designed with current ratings up to 50A in a package smaller than mil spec MS 24571 and 10% lighter than most competing devices. Rated from 1A to 50A, the 4140 temperature-compensated circuit breaker is a single-pole companion to the company?s 5140 three-pole model. The 4140 provides higher current carrying capacity with minimum weight. Including optional auxiliary contacts, weight is 60g. Useful for 115V or 28 Vdc applications, the 4140 is suitable for use in rugged ground vehicles where high performance circuit protection and resistance to mechanical vibration and shock are required. The breaker meets Mil-Std 202, method 101 test condition B, for salt spray test, making it suitable for marine applications where corrosion, mechanical specifications, and weight are prime concerns. Consistent trip curve characteristics stay within -55°C to +90°C while operating temperature limits range from ?55°C to 125°C. Typical life is 5,000 mechanical cycles and 2,500 inductive cycles. Maximum altitude is 15,000m. Pricing is about $130 each/100-500. E-T-A CIRCUIT BREAKERS, Mt. Prospect, IL. (847) 827-7600.
