In-Amp Exhibits Zero Drift

January 22, 2007
Supporting a variety of industrial sensors including resistance temperature detectors, thermocouples, and automotive pressure sensors, the AD8231 digitally programmable instrumentation amplifier (in-amp) exhibits zero-drift and operates over an industrial temperature range of -40°C to +125°C. The amplifier is said to have 80% lower input noise than comparable devices while delivering rail-to-rail inputs and outputs at a bandwidth up to 1 MHz. The device specifies a voltage offset of 50 nV/°C across temperature. In addition, it integrates gain-setting resistors, which limit gain coefficient temperature drift to 10 ppm/°C. Other features include software programmable gains of 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, or 128 via a 3-pin interface, single-supply operation from 3.3V to 5V, input impedance of 10 GΩ, an integrated op amp, a noise level of 32 nV/√Hz, and a CMR of 122 dB CMR. With production set for April, the AD8231 will be housed in a 16-lead LFCSP and priced at $1.69 each/1,000. ANALOG DEVICES INC., Norwood, MA. (800) 426-2564.
