Clock Oscillator Exploits MEMS Technology

June 30, 2008
Unveiled as the industry’s first high-shock MEMS-based military clock oscillator, the VMEM5Q features a low mass, high stiffness micromechanical resonator. Qualification testing of a 125-MHz version reveals no degradation in performance up to the maximum test capability of 30 kg in each axis. The device is capable of withstanding shock levels up to 100 kg. Employing Discera’s PureSilicon MEMS resonator, the component is available with operating frequencies from 1 MHz to 130 MHz and operates over temperature range from -40°C to +85°C and offers 100 ppm and 50 ppm stabilities. It operates off a 3.3V supply and includes an enable/disable feature. Additionally, the VMEM5Q comes in a 5 mm x 3.2 mm QFN package. VECTRON INTERNATIONAL, Hudson, NH. (888) 328-7661.
