Cost-Effective Reference Designs Advance Bluetooth Headsets

Promising Bluetooth headset makers unique capabilities at a low cost, the BlueVox 2 reference design boasts of zero-cost noise/echo cancellation and very low power consumption. Touting a number of market firsts, the package includes AuriStream toll-quality voice, simultaneous pairing of multiple devices, and support for Bluetooth version 2.1+EDR. It packs all the components necessary for a Bluetooth mono headset mounted on a four-layer board. Other features include the company's programmable Clear Voice Capture echo and noise cancellation technology, a power efficiency that enables up to 15 hours of talk time, and a voice quality on par with a landline phone. Also exploiting Clear Voice Capture echo and noise cancellation technology and the AuriStream codec, the BlueVox DSP Bluetooth mono headset reference design lays claim to being the first ROM-based design with an integrated DSP coprocessor. The design features single- and dual-microphone noise suppression, MultiPoint support, and a signal-to-noise ratio of -95 dB. The radio transmits at +8 dBm and receives at -90 dBm, eliminating interference when taking a call. Supporting v2.1+EDR of the Bluetooth specification, BlueVox DSP consists of a four-layer PCB and is available with the BlueCore5-Multimedia IC in either 8 mm x 8 mm QFN or 7 mm x 7 mm BGA packages.
