BAW Filters First To Enable WiMAX/WLAN Coexistence

June 06, 2008
Unveiled as the industry’s first bulk acoustic wave (BAW) filters for customer premise equipment to allow co-existence between WLAN and WiMAX networks, the SKY33107 and SKY33108 reject interfering frequencies while allowing the desired signals to pass for the selected network. The SKY33107 is a Wi-Fi reject/WiMAX pass filter while the SKY33108 is a Wi-Fi pass/WiMAX reject filter. Both devices measure 3 mm x 3 mm and reportedly exhibit very low in-band insertion loss, input/output return loss, and excellent rejection performance. The SKY33107 operates in 2.495- to 2.69-GHz WiMAX band transmitter applications that also include WLAN 802.11 b, g, n transmitters. The SKY33108 handles 2.4- to 2.473-GHz Wi-Fi transmitter applications encompassing 2.495- to 2.69-GHz WiMAX transmitters. Both filters operate over a -20°C to +85°C temperature range and are available in lead-free, RoHS-compliant packages. Engineering samples are available now with production under way for the fourth quarter. SKYWORKS SOLUTIONS INC., Woburn, MA. (781) 376-3000.
