Dual Buck Converter Slices Board Space By 25%

September 24, 2008
The AAT2789 dual buck converter reduces board space in mobile consumer and wireless applications by integrating both a high current 1.7A buck converter with a low current 800 mA buck converter. Operating from 2.7V to 5.5V input range, the two-channel synchronous step-down converter derives power from a single-cell li-ion battery or via a 3.3V or 5V bus. Both channels employ a unique low-noise architecture to minimize output ripple and spectral noise. Each converter also relies on its own independent enable pin and output voltage is externally adjustable. Other features include a high switching frequency that helps minimize external filter size and a peak-current mode control to eliminate external compensation. Available with a -40ºC to +85ºC temperature range in a 16-pin, lead-free 3 mm x 4 mm TDFN package, price for the AAT2789 is $1.79 each/1,000. ANALOGIC TECHNOLOGIES INC., Sunnyvale, CA.
