3G Transceiver Consumes 30% Less Power And Delivers 50% Better EVM December 04, 2008
Designed for 3G femtocell base stations, the ADF4602-1 transceiver can be paired with a mixed-signal front-end and driver amplifiers to create a complete UMTS radio that consumes 30% less power and delivers 50% better EVM (error vector magnitude). The transceiver supports the UMTS (universal mobile telecommunications system) wireless interface standard for home and office wireless infrastructure equipment. It’s a direct-conversion transceiver that incorporates frequency synthesizers, filters and power management circuitry. The ADF4602-1 3G transceiver is ideally suited to 3G femtocells providing cellular FMC (fixed mobile converged) services. With a receive sensitivity of better than –113 dBm, the front end includes three single-ended low-noise amplifiers, allowing the device to support tri-band applications. The transmitter uses a direct- conversion modulator that achieves high modulation accuracy with very low noise, eliminating the need for external transmit SAW filters. Operating on a 3.3-V supply, the transceiver typically consumes 50 mA in receive mode and 50 mA to 100 mA in transmit mode. Operating temperature range is 0°C to +85°C. The ADF4602-1, which comes housed in a 40-pin LFCSP, is sampling now with full production scheduled for June 2009. It costs $8.80 in 1000-unit quantities. ANALOG DEVICES INC., Norwood, MA.
