DisplayPort-to-VGA Converter Fits On Single Chip

January 12, 2009
Targeting cable adapters, notebook motherboards, and docking stations, the STDP3100 debuts as the market’s first single-chip DisplayPort-to-VGA converter. The device enables DisplayPort-based desktops, workstations, and notebooks to connect to legacy analog VGA monitors and projectors. By consolidating a DisplayPort input, VGA output, and supporting functions into a single chip, the STDP3100 replaces current multi-chip solutions to enable smaller and lower-power cable adapters. The device supports a two-lane DisplayPort receiver compliant with the DisplayPort version 1.1a standard. This supports 1080p high-definition video on 1920 x 1200 (WUXGA) displays capable of displaying over one billion colors. Additionally, it includes a 20-mW standby mode to help designers meet initiatives such as the International Energy Agency’s 1-W Plan. Sampling now in limited quantities, pricing for the STDP3100 in a 64-pin, 10 mm x 10mm LQFP is $3.90 each in large volumes. STMICROELECTRONICS, Lexington, MA. (888) 787-3550.
