Floating-Point DSPs Provide Peripheral Options And Low Power Operation

September 30, 2008
Teaming a wealth of peripheral connectivity and low power consumption, the company unveils what it is calling the industry’s lowest power floating-point DSPs: the TMS320C6745 DSP and TMS320C6747 DSP and the OMAP-L137 floating-point DSP plus ARM applications processor. All three include USB 2.0/1.1, 10/100 Ethernet and multimedia card/secure digital peripherals, traditionally available only on fixed-point devices or via separate components. The C6745 DSP operates at speeds up to 300 MHz and includes an extensive set of serial ports including multichannel audio ports with up to 16 serializers and FIFO buffers. It also packs an asynchronous and SDRAM eight-bit interface and a 16-bit synchronous external memory interface for SDRAM. The higher performance C6747 includes all features of the C6745 and adds an additional 128 KB of RAM plus upgraded 16-bit and 32-bit memory interfaces and an LCD controller. The OMAP-L137 applications processor includes the C674x floating-point DSP core plus an ARM9, delivering speeds up to 300 MHz per core. The device is pin compatible with the C6747 DSP, allowing users to develop multiple products with varying feature levels. In terms of power, the TMS320C6745 DSP and TMS320C6747 consume 62 mW in standby mode and 470 mW in active power mode while the OMAP-L137 applications processor draws 62 mW in standby and 490 mW of total active power. Prices for the C6745 DSP, C6747 DSP and OMAP-L137 applications processor start at $10.41, $11.72, and $18.93 each/100, respectively. TEXAS INSTRUMENTS INC., Dallas, TX. (800) 477-8924.
